Xbox 360 Recent Dashboard Update Causes Red Ring of Death?

Recently the 360 underwent a dashboard update to fix HDMI Sound related problems. The update has made some consoles inoperable.  The update is done without an option and is required if you want to sign into Xbox Live! A Thread over on xbox.com has almost 30 users who have been caught in the death grip of the 3 red rings.

On hearing this i realised that i have not turned my 360 on is about a month (don't hate me) I switched it on and downloaded the update, pleased to say i had no problems.

Is this all a coincidence? Is it simply just a unstable patch? or do ALL 360s have a scheduled RROD date?

Who knows, just glad mine is ok :)
